Identity in Christ

NEVER LOSE SIGHT OF WHO YOU ARE!

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.”
– Ephesians 1:11-12 [MSG].

Ever so often I believe that as believers it is important to be reminded of ‘Who We Are’ and to affirm Who We are in Christ i.e. our Identity in Christ.  As we know that our Identity defines us, influences every aspect of our lives and ultimately helps us chart the course of our lives.

In a time where we are faced with and overwhelmed with situations and circumstances that many of us have never seen or experienced before. It is therefore, likely that some believers can become vulnerable and susceptible to the devices of the enemy especially when faced with trialing, difficult and challenging situations in their family, work, career, business etc. that becomes too overwhelming and hard for them to handle.

Meanwhile, one of the areas the devil continuously seeks to attack the believer is in the area of his/her identity. So, hard and difficult times are the devil’s ‘happy moments’ as he sees them as opportunities to strike a believer in their most vulnerable state.
And we see the devil in Luke 4:1-13 attempting to tempt Jesus in his most vulnerable state. A state of physical weakness as the bible records that Jesus had eaten nothing for forty days.

But, Halleluyah, Jesus overcame the temptation of Satan because He knew Who He was. I love how The Voice translation of Luke 4:8 puts Jesus response when Satan told him to worship him and he would give Jesus the kingdoms of the world –  Jesus responded with these words “[Get out of My face, Satan!] The Hebrew Scriptures say, “Worship and serve the Eternal One your God—only Him—and nobody else.”

Jesus knew where his identity lied, He knew He was the son of God, He knew everything was subject to him (because through Him all things were made John 1:1-4) including Satan himself and He knew that everything in heaven and on earth belonged to him.

And that was why all through the response he gave the devil, he simply reminded him who the ‘real boss’ was 💃🏼. Jesus never lose sight of his Identity, of who He was- The Son of the Living God. And this is the same authority and confident attitude Jesus also wants us to maintain as believers, the authority in the knowledge of who we are in Christ, so that by this   knowledge we can boldly and confidently walk in Victory regardless of the challenging situation we may face.

The truth is, attacking a believer’s identity is the devil’s oldest weapon and if we are good students of the Word (the Bible) we will realise that he never gets tired of pulling out that weapon on us as believers. I believe this is because he knows that as believers we can sometimes become overwhelmed & may possibly crumble under pressure. The devil’s desire is to see us as God’s children become captives and victims to our reality and to his lies that God has forsaken or abandoned us because of what the Bible calls ‘light affliction which is but for a moment …’ – 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Listen dear friend, the devil knows that once he can tamper or interfer with your identity based on any challenging situation you are going through. He can easily deflate your faith and cause you to spiral down the lane of Unbelief.

It is therefore, important for us as believers to constantly stay in the word, to know the word for ourselves, to understand what the word says about our identity, to meditate on the word so we can stand on the truth of Who God declares us to be when we are faced with difficulties or go through seasons of adversity.

God’s word assured us of Victory not just sometimes but every time but to work in perpetual victory, we must continuously look into the word to see what our Heavenly Father say is obtainable for us. That’s how you will continue to grow in your understanding of your Identity in Christ, hallelujah!

REMEMBER, it is in Christ you find out who you are and what you are living for!

“For we are His workmanship [His own master work, a work of art], created in Christ Jesus [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, ready to be used] for good works, which God prepared [for us] beforehand [taking paths which He set], so that we would walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us].” – Ephesians 2:10 [AMP].

Never forgot to Remind, Affirm and continuously and constantly stay in the word.

Do have a blessed and productive week! ❤️
