Identity in Christ

DON’T SETTLE FOR LESS OF WHO YOU ARE!

“Now Joseph was handsome and attractive in form and appearance. Then after a time his master’s wife looked at Joseph with desire, and she said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, with me in the house, my master does not concern himself with anything; he has put everything that he owns in my charge. He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil and sin against God [and your husband]?” – Genesis 39:6-9 [AMP].

NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS OF WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST!

When I think of this statement, I think of Joseph and the many difficult trials and challenging situations he faced from when he was despised by his brothers and sold into slavery in Egypt(Genesis 37:28). Despite the betrayal by his ‘own siblings and the false accusation made by Potiphar’s (his slave master) wife and the many challenging situations he would have gone through been a slave in a foreign land.

However, reading through the heartrending story of Joseph, one thing remained constant in Joseph’s life – he knew Who he Was in God, his understanding of Who he was in God made him never settle for less of what God had for him.

Because he knew who he was in God, he refused the temptation to compromise with Potiphar’s wife or abuse his position both as Potiphar’s general manager and as the prison superintendent. Because Joseph knew who he was in God, he went about his business confidently with his head lifted high because he knew that if God was for him, no one could be against him. Because he knew who he was in God, he did not allow his predicament (of being falsely accused) stop him from exuding love and compassion to others who were also going through difficult times.

By not settling for anything less of Who he was in God and by not comprising his love for God, Joseph revealed his heart of love for God. Joseph actions indicated his honour for God and this resulted in God’s favor and overwhelming blessings upon his life even as a foreigner.

Remember, your identity is in Christ, never settle for anything less!
