SPRINKLE YOUR SALT FLAVOUR!

As you step out today, here’s a reminder of God’s word to you from Matthew 5:13 [MSG].

“Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.”

Ever found yourself sometimes wonder what or why you are here on earth for? Truth is there are many books that have been written to try and answer this question and one of it is the best seller book by Rick Warren The Purpose Driven Life – What on earth am I here for? ( I highly recommend you get this book).

So back to my question, have you caught yourself asking the Why question? – Well, don’t wonder to far, why? Because Today’s key verse is a pointer to our purpose here on earth and it is a good place to help us know the ultimate relevance of our purpose- to add value and usefulness to others. Isn’t that meant to be the overall summary of whatever it is we believe our purpose is and what God has called us to do here on earth.

Here’s a self check you can do to know if your purpose is relevant- ask yourself is what you are doing adding value to others?, is it bringing out the best in them? Does it enhance others to be their very best and does it help others to see themselves the way God sees them? so that they can also become a blessing to others too. These are all attributes of the salt, adding value, preventing decay and changing outcomes.

So, Jesus in today’s Bible verse helps us to articulately answer our why – he tells us that we are salt, that we are life givers and the ultimate of what we have been called to do is to sprinkle our salt flavour everywhere we go so that we can bring out the multifaceted dimensions of God’s flavours to our sphere of influence.

Today, I want to remind you that you are a powerful ingredient ( I don’t mean ingredient in the literal sense 😁) but in terms of the attributes of the Salt. You are salt seasoning designed and fashioned by God to preserve, purify, enhance and transform lives. Today’s Bible verse is very significant because it reminds you and me as believers of who we are in Christ SALT and we must seek not to ever LOSE OUR SALTINESS BUT INSTEAD SPRINKLE IT EVERYWHERE WE GO!

Christ reminds us through this scripture of our essence and of what makes us uniquely different as believers. He reminds us also as believers that we carry within us the life-giving power that has the capacity to transform the lives of those we come in contact with on a daily. Jesus makes this comparison between us and salt to make us understand that we carry within us dynamic power so that we can focus on being intentional about the way we live our lives.

Christ tells us we are here on earth to be as a salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. –  Hallelujah! isn’t it awesome to know that we are change agents and that we carry such life-transforming power within us that change the lives of those around us positively!

Salt is a chemical compound that has many uses both commercially and physically as it relates to human consumption. It is also a great seasoning and preservative when it comes to preparation and preservation of food especially for a longer period of time.

According to the Harvard Health Publishing journal “salt is sodium chloride, the white crystals left over when seawater evaporates and The human body can’t live without some sodium. It’s needed to transmit nerve impulses, contract and relax muscle fibers (including those in the heart and blood vessels), and maintain a proper fluid balance.

So, if salt is that important and useful for proper functioning of the human body, we see why Jesus had to make reference to this powerful mineral to reminds us that being salt, we are designed to preserve and to bring life to others. This is why we cannot afford to lose our saltiness because if we do, things around us will not function as they should function and will most probably die. However, Salt no longer has any usefulness, or purpose when it can no longer add taste to meals or preserve food items.

Therefore, as you go about your daily business and activities today, leave a trail of your salt behind, choose to intentionally sprinkle your salt flavour everywhere you go. Never forget to remind yourself that you are Salt designed to preserve a generation and also that people can experience God’s love and goodness through you and ultimately taste and see his goodness.

Remember, God wants to spread his amazing love and grace through us to others because we are his hands and feet. He has, therefore, placed you where you are currently to help bring life, hope, and blessings to those around you through all the gifts and special abilities He has put inside of you. So, maintain your saltiness so you don’t end up in the garbage as Jesus said by staying in God’s word to know what he has called you to do and to seek after Christ in all you do.

Live each day mindful not to lose your saltiness because as Jesus said “If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.”

I pray that neither you and I will ever lose our saltiness as we fulfil God’s purpose for our lives in Jesus name, Amen.

Do have a blessed and fruitful day!

God bless you.
