Morning Inspiration – A HEART PETITION!

As you step out today, here’s a reminder of God’s word to you from Psalm 139:23-24 [AMP].

23 “Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart; Test me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”

The [MSG] Translation says,

23-24 “Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong then guide me on the road to eternal life.”

Today’s Bible verse which is an impassioned prayer made by King David originates from a heart seeking to please the Lord in every way i.e. in words, deeds and actions. And as believers, desiring to please God in all our ways, this also ought to be our heart cry, our heart longing and our heart petition to the Lord daily.

Practising this will ensure that our heart continually seeks the Lord, to do his will and to please him. Declaring this prayer to the Lord signifies a desire to please the Lord and total submission to wanting to be in God’s perfect will at all times.

Today’s key verses also express a heart that longs for more of God in words, in deeds and in actions. These words are not just feel good words by a king with everything at his disposal or perhaps a lonely shepherd boy surrounded by uncertainty and insecurity.

Rather it is an intentional invitation to God requesting His permission to cross-examine, investigate and test out his state of heart.

As believers familiar with the life and story of David, the shepherd boy who eventually became one of the beloved King of Israel (1Samuel 16), is a man that the Bible describes as a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22, 1Samuel 13:14).

However, David wasn’t a man without his own weakness and faults (2 Samuel 12) but one of the greatest lesson to learn from David is that he was a man quick to repent of his sins. And as today’s key verse reads, he was also a man who was not afraid to openly invite God into his heart space to search his heart. To check out his anxious thoughts so that God can drowse him with his peace.

David was bold enough to ask God to test his state of heart to examine and see if there was any wicked or hurtful way in him so that God can address these issues ( this is because our lifestyle and thoughts which translates into our words can either affect others positively or negatively) and he can continually honour God with his life.

David also knew that by boldly inviting God into his heart space, he was confident that the Lord will continually lead and guide him in His truth and in the best pathway for his life.

Therefore, as you go about your daily business and activities, my encouragement to you today is to boldly invite God just like David did into your heart space. Sincerely cry out to him to reveal the state of your heart to you as only Him truly knows. And as often as you can let this be your prayer

“Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.”Amen.

Do have a blessed and fruitful day!

God bless you.
